Anderlecht icon Paul Van Himst thinks the club has a problem up front and believes Joshua Zirkzee isn’t the solution.
Anderlecht have struggled to score goals all season, with the goal scoring responsibility on the shoulder of the Nigerian-Dutch forward.
Zirkzee again, led the line in the playoff clash with Royal Antwerp on Monday, and the outcome wasn’t different from what the fans have experienced in the past.
However, Manager Vincent Kompany emphasized that the on loan forward from Bayern has tried his best for Anderlecht, but Himst insists there is a problem up front and urged Anderlecht to get Lukas Nmecha from Wolfsburg.
“Scoring remains a problem,” he said in an interview with De Zondag.
“And in difficult matches we have almost no chances. I understand that an attacker also has to defend in modern football, but Zirkzee does fall back a lot, a striker has to score first.”
“Then I thought Nmecha was a better striker. And those two from Union at least make goals.”
” When I was the coach of Anderlecht I had Erwin Vandenbergh in the striker. Then you almost start with a goal lead, huh. That makes a world of difference.”
