Kwara United moves to 5th after win over FC Ifeanyi Ubah

Kwara United defeated visiting Ifeanyi Ubah 1-0 in an NPFL week six encounter at the Ilorin Township stadium on Sunday.

Kwara United went into the game on the back of the 1 – 0 win over Enyimba last Wednesday, while FC Ifeanyi Ubah came in with their winless run of four matches.

Biffo’s men started the game like house of fire and almost went ahead in the 7th minute with Kalu Nweke failing to convert the chance presented to him.

Three minutes later, Chisom Samuel had another good opportunity to put the Harmony Boys ahead, but the attacker fired the ball over the bar after being brilliantly set up by Jide Fatokun.

FC Ifeanyiubah goalkeeper, Sharp Uzoigwe prevented his team from going behind in the 35th minute, as he made a double save within seconds.

The visitors didn’t offer much going forward for most part of the game as they sat back to soak up the pressure and hope to hit on counter.

Their first break came in the 43rd minute from a counter attack which ended with AbdulRasheed Umar’s shot ricocheting off a defender for a corner kick.

After the first half ended in stalemate, Kwara United resumed the second with more urgency and intent.

The Harmony Boys almost got the reward for their hard work in the 77th minute, after danger man Kalu Nweke created space in the box, but his shot sailed over the bar.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 86th minute, substitute Olawale Farayola met a neat pass from Fatokun and sent the ball beyond the reach of goalkeeper Uzoigwe.

FC Ifeanyi Ubah almost snatched a point at the death, but goalkeeper Dele Aiyenugba, who had nothing to do for much part of the game, made an incredible save to deny the Anambra Warriors.

Aiyenugba has now kept three clean sheets for his new club this season.

With the win over Ifeanyi Ubah, Kwara United moved to fifth position on the NPFL standings with 11 points and are only 3 points behind table toppers Nasarawa United.

Kwara United will travel to Lagos to face MFM in their next NPFL match this coming Sunday.
