Umar Sadiq and Almeria are edging closer to securing promotion to La Liga next season, after picking up a narrow win over Sporting Gijon on Monday night.

Sadiq, Almeria’s leading scorer played the entire duration, but Curro Sanchez was the hero, the latter’s late winner secured maximum points at the Estadio del Mediterraneo.

Despite not finding the back of the net, the Nigerian Forward had a decent game and was a big threat up front.

The 25-year-old missed three big chances and Curro himself had a goal chalked off by VAR in a game Almeria dominated.

Eventually, the winning goal came, Curro Sanchez found the back of the net in the stoppage time.

Following the late win, Almeria leapfrogged Valladolid to second on the Segunda Liga table, by a single point.

With five games left to play, Rojiblancos must maintain their single point advantage to be guaranteed an automatic promotion spot.
