NPFL champions Rivers United dropped points in the league encounter against Sunshine Stars in Akure.
Sunshine Stars scored a late equalizer to settle for a point in the 1-1 draw in the week 2 match.
Stanley Eguma and his opposite number, Edith Agoye, maintained the same matchday one starting eleven.
But it was Rivers United who settled into the game quickly, and deservedly went in front after 23 minutes with a goal.
The scoreline stood for long thanks to Seidu Mutawakilu in goal for Rivers. He made three excellent saves to deny the hosts an equalizer in the second half.
With six minutes to go, Sunshine Stars finally made it from the penalty spot, with Ejike Uziechi finally beating Mutawakilu from 12 yards.
Rivers United will return to action in NPFL action on Tuesday 24th January with a home tie against Niger Tornadoes.
