League Title not Enough for Rivers United – Eguma

Rivers United have been confirmed as the winner of the 2021-2022 NPFL Season, but manager Stanley Eguma insists their season isn’t over.

The Pride of Rivers were crowned champions with four games left after second place Plateau United suffered a 2-1 defeat to former Champions Akwa United last Saturday.

However newly crowned Champions slipped to a 2-1 loss to Nasarawa United in Lafia on Sunday.

A 5th minute goal by Sunday Okereke after being found through by Chinedu Ohanachom saw Nasarawa United taking an early lead.

It was all squared in the 80th minute after Sikiru Olatunbosun drew the visitors level.

Michael Tochukwu then gave Nasarawa United the victory with his 11th goal of the campaign after converting from twelve yards.

Speaking after the game, Eguma praised the spirit of his boys, despite the defeat.

“It’s a good game, but it’s unfortunate that we conceded an early goal and the hosts went on to dominate the first-half.

“Though we rallied back to pull a leveler, that last minute penalty to the home side spoiled our day.

“Generally, it was a good game, but we will do better in our next game, because we still have a lot to play for.” He said.
