Leicester’s Kelechi Iheanacho enters premier league history book

Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho netted his 19th goal of the season for Leicester City in their 2-1 Premier League defeat against Chelsea at Stanford this Tuesday.

Iheanacho started the match from the bench as Leicester City gaffer Brendan Rodgers made two line-up changes from the FA Cup final, with James Maddison replacing him from the starting lineup.

Chelsea took the lead at the start of the second half when Chilwell’s corner was only diverted into the danger zone by Vardy at the near post and Rudiger was there to bundle it home.

Rodgers turns to his bench and brought on Iheanacho for the ineffective James Maddison in an attempt to shift the momentum of the match but Chelsea was awarded a penalty minutes later.

Wesley Fofana clipped the foot of Timo Werner in the box and Jorginho did the rest by converting the spot-kick.

Leicester reduced the deficit when Wilfred Ndidi won possession of the ball high up the pitch before setting up Iheanacho who beat Edouard Mendy to his left foot.

The goal means Iheanacho becomes the first player in Premier League history to score a goal on all seven days of the week within a single season in the competition.

Iheanacho also takes his goal tally for the Brendan Rodgers-led Foxes to 19 in all competitions this season.

Leicester dropped to the fourth position on the table and needed at least a win at home against Tottenham Hotspurs to be guaranteed a place in next season’s Champions League.
