Liverpool Won’t Defend UCL Title – Aiyegbeni

European champions, Liverpool are a game away from confirming their place in the knockout rounds following Wednesday’s 1-1 draw against Napoli.

The outcome of the game means Jurgen Klopp’s men have now picked up 10 points, which is one more than they did in six group games last season.

With the Reds, possibly eyeing the defence of the UCL title, former Nigeria and Everton Striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni does not see Liverpool winning the tournament back to back.

Aiyegbeni, who spent four seasons at Goodison Park and made 82 appearances, tips Manchester City and possibly Tottenham to have a better campaign.

The 37 year-old also praised Chelsea for the revolution under new Manager, Frank Lampard.

“I don’t think they (Liverpool) will be champions this season,” The Yak told www.brila.net.

“It’s going to be a lot difficult this time. Manchester City are a side that look like they can go all the way this season, play good football and the Manager Pep Guardiola has experience.

“Tottenham were finalists last season and now they have Mourinho in charge, that could also play in their favor.

“I don’t necessarily see Chelsea going as far as the Semis, but they’re playing exciting football now with Lampard; maybe better than the last guy.

“But anything can happen in the Champions League, a few good games and you can end up going on a run, but it’s hard to predict the UCL,” the former player said.
