Lobi Star of Makurdi Coach Gbenga Ogunbote, says he’s trusting the management to protect the interest of club as stakeholders edge closer to final resolution for the 2019-2020 season.
The league organising body and most clubs have decided to vote for the adoption of the ‘point per game’ model to determine the final league standing for the 2019-2020 Nigeria Professional Football League season, shortly after the government ruled out the return of competitive sports amidst the ongoing global pandemic.
Lobi Stars are third on the league standings before the season was suspended back in March, however the adoption of points per game mode to decide the final standing will see the club drop out to fourth and miss out of continental football next season.
Ogunbote who spoke to brila.net on the several challenges facing the league said he’s hoping the management take the right decision on behalf of the club at this critical period.
The former Rangers International of Enugu Coach maintained that his team deserved qualification for CAF competition as the consequence of their hard work before the season was suspended indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic.
When asked if the club will challenge or accept the final decision, The 2018 Aiteo Cup-winning gaffer said that only the management can speak on the way forward, if they eventually miss out on the qualifications for continental football.
