Lobi Stars see off UMS Luom to set up Gor Mahia clash

Lobi Stars of Makurdi are through to the next phase of the African biggest football Club competition after a 2-0 second leg victory over UMS De Luom of Cameroon at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium on Wednesday.

Trailing 1-0 from the first leg in Cameroon, Lobi needed a victory by two goals and a clean sheet to see them through to the next round and they did just that with goals from Sikiru Alimi and Yahaya Kone.

Alimi who is a new arrival from Sunshine Stars of Akure canceled the Cameroonians one-goal advantage just fourteen minutes into the first half as he finished past the goalkeeper emphatically to give the home side half-time lead.

With the first half ended without a further goal, both sides came into the second half with a strong desire to go in front and Lobi had to wait till after an hour mark to have the all-important second goal as Yahaya Kone doubled the lead and put the champions in front 2-1 on aggregate.

Lobi Stars resisted all attempts from the Cameroonians to get an important away goal as they proceed to the next stage of the CAF money-spinning elite club tournament.

The Pride of Benue will now face Gor Mahia of Kenya in the next preliminary phase, with the first leg scheduled for December 14 in Nairobi, while the return fixture will hold a week later in Nigeria.
