Super Eagles forward, Ademola Lookman ended his six-match Serie A goal drought with a confident finish as Atalanta thrashed Monza 4-0 on Sunday to boost their Champions League hopes.

Lookman, who began the season brightly for the Europa League-winning side, had failed to score in recent league games against Inter Milan, Fiorentina, Lazio, Bologna, AC Milan, and Lecce.

But the Nigerian forward returned to the scoresheet in emphatic fashion, netting Atalanta’s third goal of the day just minutes after the restart.

The game kicked off with Belgium international Charles De Ketelaere opening the scoring in the 12th minute. He doubled Atalanta’s advantage 11 minutes later with a composed finish, giving the visitors full control before the break.

Two minutes into the second half, Lookman added his name to the scoresheet. The 27-year-old showcased brilliant movement and composure after receiving a clever layoff from Mateo Retegui.

With a swift touch and a calm finish, he fired home his first goal since March 9, when he last scored against Juventus.

The winger was substituted in the 80th minute for Marco Brescianini, who went on to wrap up the win with Atalanta’s fourth goal in the 88th minute.

Lookman’s goal takes his tally to 19 goals and seven assists in 38 appearances across all competitions this season a strong return that highlights his importance to Gian Piero Gasperini’s side.

With Atalanta in the thick of the race for a top-four finish, Lookman’s return to form couldn’t have come at a better time.

The Bergamo-based side now have momentum heading into the final stretch of the season, and the Nigerian international is once again proving decisive in key moments.

His resurgence will also be good news for Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle, who is preparing for the Unity Cup in London this May and Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers resuming in September.

Lookman’s sharpness in front of goal will be crucial for the national team’s ambitions.
