Romelu Lukaku has been named player of the season at Everton’s annual awards ceremony in Liverpool on Tuesday night.
Following his 24 goal haul in the Premier League this campaign spearheading the club’s charge back to European football after two years outside of continental competition.
The Belgian striker has been linked with a move away from Goodison Park this summer, but Lukaku was delighted to pick up his award and is focused on ending the season on a high note.
Lukaku told evertontv: ‘I’m surprised to win. Since I turned professional, this is the first time I’ve won this award.
For me, personally, I thought Gana [Idrissa Gueye] was going to win because he has been the best player consistently. I told him earlier that he was going to win!
‘He and the other midfielders this year gave more licence to the likes of me, Ross Barkley, Kevin Mirallas and Yannick Bolasie to create and score. As a team we are back on track and the future looks bright.
‘I’m very happy and I want to thank the manager as well for pushing me because I know I am not an easy guy! We have an open relationship and he took me to the next level. I want to thank the fans as well.’
Meanwhile, Tom Davies scooped a hat-trick of awards with the 18-year-old’s goal and performance in the 4-0 win over Manchester City in January accounting for two of his gongs. Davies, an Everton academy graduate became a first-team regular since the start of 2017 and was quick to showcase his talent.
‘I’m privileged and proud to win this award,’ Davies told the club’s official website. ‘Everything has happened so quickly this season, and it’s even surreal being at the event tonight, when you who’s here and everyone who has wanted a picture with me.
‘Walking on the blue carpet and interacting with all the fans, it’s been a great feeling.’
