Former assistant coach of Nigeria’s women national team Maureen Madu has empathized with some senior members of the Nigeria women national team who may have been planning a final shot at the Africa women cup of nations with the 2020 edition of the AWCON which was last week cancelled by CAF.
Madu speaking in a chat with brila.net said the cancellation certainly must have been disappointing for some ageing members of the team who would have been looking at the 2020 tournament as a final bow for their national team adventure and will now be faced with assessing or trying to stay up to shape for another two years hoping to be considered for the tourney again.
“Of course they will be disappointed that this is their last nation’s cup but also CAF knows why they decided like that so what are we going to do. There is nothing we can do about it. Nobody can change it, they have already made the decision.
“This is not the decision they just decided, they have been thinking about it since. So they really know why they decided like that.”
