Maduka Okoye becomes Claudio Ranieri’s first signing for Watford

Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has joined English Premier League side Watford Football Club.

The Hornet announced the agreement to sign the 22-year-old shot stopper from Dutch Eredivisie side Sparta Rotterdam on Monday.

The details of the deal was not disclosed but the Premier League side will allow the goalkeeper to spend the rest of 2021-2022 campaign with Sparta Rotterdam.

“We’re pleased to announce that an agreement has been reached to sign Maduka Okoye on January 1, 2022.”

“The Nigerian goalkeeper joins from Sparta Rotterdam where he will return on loan until the end of the 2021/22 campaign.” The statement reads.

Okoye joined Sparta Rotterdam from Fortuna Duesseldorf last season and kept ten clean sheet in 21 matches to help the club finish in top half of the league, despite poor start to the campaign.

He is the shining star in Sparta Rotterdam’s poor team this season, with at least three key saves in a game.

Okoye will now join his compatriot William Troost-Ekong, Emmanuel Dennis and Oghenekaro Etebo at the Club.
