Board member of the Nigeria Football Federation and leader of the delegation of Nigeria’s U17 national team contingent to the just concluded WAFU U17 tournament in Lome, Togo Ganiyu Majekodunmi has stated that there are positives to be taken from Nigeria’s participation at the regional tournament despite relinquishing her defense of the WAFU U17 title.
Majekodunmi speaking in a chat with brila.net said Nigeria has nothing to be ashamed of especially considering the challenges of having to come up with a suitably qualified group of players bearing in mind the challenges of the MRI.
He added that Nigeria presented the youngest team of the tournament which bids well for the future of the young and talented Footballers coming through the ranks.
“We thank God that we didn’t commit any offense in the WAFU cup tournament because some of the countries were looking towards Nigeria that we will be caught for age cheating.
“Our boys we paraded the youngest players of the tournament, thank God for that, even the host country was driven out of the competition, it could have been a big shame to us but we thank God, we were not shamed.”
