Enyimba welcome Wikki Tourists to the UJ Esuene Stadium on Sunday as they seek to keep up their chase for a place in the top three.
With three games to play, the seven-time league champions are three points behind third-place Akwa United, albeit having played a game less.
With their rivals having secured a 2-1 win on Friday over Lobi Stars, the focus now turns inevitably to Calabar.
Wikki Tourists won the reverse fixture in Bauchi courtesy of a very late header, but have had very few moments of cheer in the league this season following their lofty placement last term.
They sit in 15th place on the log, only a point clear of the relegation zone.
Enyimba on their part have overcome a slow start to edge closer to the top of the table, but must win on Sunday to level with Akwa United on points, and perhaps chase down the disparity in goal difference between both sides.
“We are aware of Akwa United’s result,” said striker Stephen Chukwude, speaking with Enyimba Media.
“The issue is that there is not only pressure to win, but to make our goals count. We need to increase our goal tally, that’s what we need to do to get an advantage over Akwa United. We need to win by four or five goals.”
Enyimba come into the game with some injury worries, most notably with captain Mfon Udoh still out with an injury sustained while on international duty.
But, Chukwude believes is of the opinion there is little to be concerned about.
“Enyimba is not the kind of small team to be pressured by the absence of any player. Everyone here is a big player, who can be called on at any time.”
Wikki have been lightweight on their travels this season, and have only picked up one point from a possible 51 on the road.
Conversely, Enyimba have the second-best home record in the league going into Matchday 36, and have won seven of the last eight home meetings against Wikki.
The odds, then, would seem to be stacked against the visitors.
“The fans should expect nothing less than our last display at home (a 3-0 victory over ABS). I see us winning by three or four goals tomorrow,” Chukwude opined.
