Mbemba Racially Abused after Feisty End to DR Congo vs Morocco Match

Congo DR captain, Chancel Mbemba faced a wave of racist abuse on social media following his role in securing a 1-1 draw against Morocco in a feisty Africa Cup of Nations encounter, on Sunday.

Mbemba got several racist messages sent to him on Instagram, with offensive comments and monkey emojis.

The 29-year-old, who plays for French club Marseille, had a heated exchange with Morocco coach Walid Regragui after the match, leading to a tumultuous confrontation between players and officials.

Mbemba suggested that Regragui insulted him, expressing his shock at hearing offensive language from the coach. However, Regragui has not yet responded to the allegations.

Meanwhile, tensions also escalated off the field, with reports of violence in the press tribune.

Moroccan media, including Le Matin, accused Congolese journalists of aggression.

Allegedly, a Congolese journalist attempted to physically assault a Moroccan counterpart, who managed to evade the attack. The same journalist was reportedly targeted with a missile hauled at him.
