Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil said he drew inspiration from former Nigeria international Austine Okocha while growing up.
Ozil made this known during a question and answer session with his fans on social media on Monday night.
Okocha was one of the best playmaker in the German Bundesliga during his time with Eintracht Frankfurt and one of the highlights of his time in the league was when he scored a fabulous goal against Karlsruher SC.
Okocha dribbled past several defenders in the penalty box, before slotting the ball past goalkeeper Oliver Kahn in goal.
The goal was later voted goal of the season by many football magazines and other football platforms in the Germany.
The former Nigerian Captain later left Frankfurt to team up with Ozil’s favorite club in Turkey, Fenerbahce in a £1million deal.
When asked about the name and number on his first football shirt as a kid, Ozil simply wrote :
Number 10 ” “Jay Jay Okocha” 😎⚽
The world cup winner also disclosed he’s willing to follow Okocha footsteps and play for Fenerbahce before he retire from the game.
