This weekend’s NPFL matches will mark the end of the first half of the league but for MFM FC , the memories of last season capitulation is still fresh.
In a chat with brila.net ahead of their matchday 19 game against Akwa United, midfield maestro, Chukwuka Onuwa admits the scar still hurts becasue MFM FC let down many fans.
The club, newly promoted last season, had enjoyed a good run leading to the end of the first stanza.
However, things went bottom up for Fidelis Ilechukwu’s men and only barely managed to avoid relegation.
Recounting the drama of their relegation battle, Onuwa said the entire team felt disappointed and kick themselves for it.
Fast forward to the 2016/17 season, and the Lagos based club are back on top of the table and enjoying a rich vein.
MFM FC are on 33 points; two better than second place Plateau United – who have two games in hands – .
Onuwa believes the team is better prepared now to deal with the rigors of the top flight and the players are closely knitted and a better unit this term.
He stressed that the group has vowed that the slump of last season will not happen again.
