Former Chelsea midfielder, Mikel Obi has suggested that Graham Potter did not exactly fit the profile of the idle manager for the club.

Potter was sacked after a rather disastrous run of results that saw the club plummet below the mid table since he took over from Thomas Tuchel.

In a chat with Dubai Eye 103.8 FM, the former Midfielder argued that under former owner Roman Abramovich, Chelsea would have sacked Potter much sooner than was eventually done.

“He was given a lot of time, I think if he was in the Roman Abramovich era, he would have been sacked earlier.

“I think the club made the right decision. Maybe the club was too big for him to manage, because when I look at him on the touchline sometimes it’s like he doesn’t really know what to do; he is not communicating with the players, telling them what to do on the pitch.

“I like managers who are always motivated, who are very passionate on the touchline, and when they scream at you it’s like they are telling you what to do. Sometimes players need a kick on the backside to be able to wake up, but with Graham (Potter), I wasn’t seeing that.”

Mikel Obi also stated that he hopes that interim manager and former teammate, Frank Lampard, would bring the emotion back to the touchline to get the team to do better.

“And also with Frank, and I hope when he comes back he will be more like a Klopp and Pep you can see these managers are always emotional; it’s like they want to be on the pitch and I want to see that with Frank.”
