Missing the 2022 World Cup still hurts — Aribo

Super Eagles midfielder, Joe Aribo says missing the 2022 World Cup with the national team is the lowest point of his career so far.

The Super Eagles failed to qualify for the World Cup, losing out to rivals Black Stars of Ghana in the final qualifying playoff round.

The first leg in Kumasi ended goalless, but the Ghanaians scored an all-important away goal during the second leg in Abuja to snatch the ticket.

Nigeria had qualified for every World Cup finals since 2010 before the shocking defeat to Ghana.

And with the 2022 edition in Qatar a few weeks away, the Nigerian international says missing the tournament is painful.

“I will say probably one of my lowest moments in football, not just because we are not going to the World Cup but in the manner, it happened against Ghana,” Aribo told Southampton’s official website.

“Of course, the rivalry, so there is just a lot to take in,” he added.
