Monaco Boss Niko Kovac gives interesting verdict on Onyekuru

Monaco manager Niko Kovac believes Henry Onyekuru is one of the best wingers in the French Ligue 1.

Onyekuru linked up with the Principality club from Premier League side Everton last summer.

The 23-year-old struggled to get regular playing time under former coach Leonardo Jardim and was sent out on loan to Turkish outfit Galatasaray in January.

He made ten league appearances for Galatasaray and scored one goal and registered two assists in the process.

Following his return to Stade Louis II , the Nigeria international was impressive during Monaco’s pre-season games, and Kovac is expecting big things from him this season.

“You have certainly seen how we played against AZ. We played well, we were well prepared to line up in a 4-3-3. But the system is not important to me, it is mainly the attitude of the players that I watch,” Kovac said.

“Henry and Gelson bring us work on the wings, we know their qualities. I have confidence in them, and I think we have one of the best pair of wingers in France.”

Meanwhile, Onyekuru featured for 45 minutes as Monaco began their French Ligue Un campaign with a 2-2 draw against Stade Reims on Sunday.
