Rivers Hoopers head Coach Ogoh Odaudu has praised the influence of Nigerian players in the NBA.

Odaudu noted that Nigeria has a talented pool of players at the highest levels of professional basketball.

“So far I think that the Nigerian guys in the NBA are holding their heads up high and they are performing well,” the Coach told Brila.net.

“Look at the place where we are coming from and look at where they are going you can tell that it is actually a plus for us and it’s kudos to them.

“There is OG Anunoby, who is also making waves there is Joshua Okogie with the Phoenix suns who is doing a great work. Precious Achiuwa and all those other guys who are doing fantastic work. I think it’s a plus for us and it’s a great honour for us to have Nigerians representing us at that world stage and representing us well.”

Speaking particularly about Toronto Raptors Small forward OG Anunoby and his chances of playing for the National team alongside stars lighting up the NBA the D’Tigers assistant coach revealed the country is now better positioned to attract foreign born stars plying their trade in the NBA.

Odaudu pointed to the influence of D’Tigers head coach Alan Major and Sacramento kings gaffer Mike Brown.

“With the coach we have and the kind of influence that we have over there now, I think recruiting Nigerians who are in the NBA to come and play for D’Tigers is going to be a thing easier than before.

“Of course Mike Brown is doing a great job with the Sacramento kings, so be ready to see a lot of Nigerians playing in the NBA because all he needs to do is just pick up the phone and say hey come over and of course they will listen to him. So it’s a good thing for us and hopefully very soon we will see him in Nigerian colours.”
