Nantes manager singled out Simon Moses and Remy Deschamps for praises, following their heroic performance in the French Cup semifinal against AS Monaco.
FC Nantes, on Wednesday, defeated AS Monocao to book their place in the Coupe de France final for the first time in 22 years.
The Canaries got the better of AS Monaco 4-2 on penalties after regulation time had finished 2-2 on Wednesday night.
Goalkeeper Remy Descamps and Simon Moses were the heroes for Les Canaries in the shootout.
Deschamps denied top scorer Wissam Ben Yedder, Moses Simon converted the decisive kick by sending Monaco’s goalkeeper Alexander Nübel the wrong way.
“Simon did well to covert the penalty, it’s always easy to take the decisive kick, but he’s not afraid to do it.”
“We are happy about his performance and results in general.”
“As for Rémy (Descamps), I think he could have done much better, especially for the two goals. But he was very strong, mentally, because he was very good in the penalty shootout. He deserved to play, he had had some great performances. But that doesn’t mean anything for the final.”
Nantes will now face OG Nice in the final at the Stade de France on 8 May as they hope to secure their fourth-ever Coupe de France and first silverware since their league and league cup double in 2001.
Kombouaré also spoke about the resurgence of the team, after struggling to be relegated last season.
“I told my players that they are totally insane. They’ve beaten Lens (3-2) and PSG (3-1) already,”
“Compared to last season, with the same players, the same team, we are seventh in Ligue 1 and we are in the final of the Coupe de France: it exceeds my wildest dreams. We are proud, but we won’t get carried away.”
Nantes’ next test is a league clash with Montpellier, who will visit the Stade de la Beaujoire on Saturday.
