Mother of 2 Helen Ward helping to push Watford ladies in the right direction

Helen Jane Ward is an international football striker who is currently playing club football for FA WSL 2 team Watford Ladies, she began her career with 14 years at Watford Ladies where she was a prolific goalscorer and team captain.

Ward said she starts her day by getting her kids dressed, fed, then off to school/daycare. According to her, she usually has a normal day like normal moms, cleaning, cooking and scolding her kids. The most fun time is football training outside, then she leaves for training.

Ward joined Watford Ladies at the age of nine and went on to progress through to the first team before becoming the captain of the clubs senior side. The biggest influence in her career was her brother, especially when she was younger.

The 32-year-old, Brent-born star has made a rousing return from giving birth to daughter Emily in 2014 and son Charlie in 2017, an experienced figurehead in a callow Golden Girls squad.

Ward said her decision to join Watford ladies which was home was so she doesn’t end up resenting football which she loves “When I had my second child at the start of last season, it felt right to come back and play closer to home, I’ve got other things on in my life now I didn’t have in the past and priorities change. Family comes first but football is still right up there.”

The striker has been at the top of the women’s game for nearly a decade, encompassing spells with FA WSL giants Arsenal, Chelsea and Reading. She hopes to take Watford to greater heights “I love playing for this badge and I’m hoping to help push us up the ladder in the right direction.”
