Nigeria Professional Football League side Nasarawa United has decided to retire jersey number ’20’ worn by late Martin Chineme.
The club’s Chairman, Barrister Isaac Danladk, said the management took the decision as a mark of honor and respect for the late 23- year-old who slumped and died while representing the club in a league game back in March.
“As a mark of respect to our departed player, Chineme Martins, who died in the course of meritorious service to the club, management has decided to rest his jersey number ’20’ for the whole of the 2020/2021 League Season”.
“May his soul continue to rest in perfect peace.” he said.
Martins Chineme lost his life in a league game against Katsina United FC on Matchday 23 on Sunday, 8th March, 2020, at the Lafia City Stadium.
The player has since been buried in his hometown in Abia State.
