It was a dream start from Bayelsa State at the ongoing 20th National Sports Festival as they picked three gold, one silver, and two bronze medals from the swimming events on the opening day.
The first gold medal was won by Ifiemi Gagbe in the women swimming 100 meters freestyle in swimming.
Golden Ifie made it two in the 200m freestyle before Yellow Yeighya added the third in men’s 200m freestyle events.
Earlier Doutimi Gagbe also won a bronze medal in 200 meters Butterfly Stroke event.
Ese Bassey and Selere Mathias and Udeze Amarachi also won gold and bronze medal respectively in Judo to cap a memorable opening day of action for Bayelsa State.
Recalled that Delta State Cyclist, Ese Ukpeseraye, won first Gold Medalist 20th the National Sports Festival after finishing ahead of 12 other competitors in the 80 km Cycling road race.
Ukpeseraye beat two siblings; Comfort and Grace Ayuba from host state Edo to the Silver and Bronze medal positions to further deepen the rivalry between the two rival states.
