Board member of the Nigeria Boxing Federation Azania Omo-Agege has stated that the boxing governing body in Nigeria is still waiting on the IOC’s modalities to determine the final 53 slots for the boxing events at the Tokyo Olympics in Japan.
Omo-Agege speaking in a chat with brila.net said the decision on where to go with regards to the qualification tournament holding not otherwise by ranking will determine Nigeria’s fate as regards boxing at the Olympics.
He however added that if it comes down to ranking, Nigeria can still be hopeful of a slot or two.
“Definitely those qualifiers are needed, most of the boxers have their own rankings and maybe if they go by rankings we might but let’s just wait and see. With boxing, some of our boxers are ranked but I don’t know how they are going to decide on their rankings itself so let’s just wait and see we have our AIBA rankings.”
