Super Eagles midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi was in action as Leicester City fell to a heavy 3-0 defeat against Wolves in Saturday’s Premier League encounter.
The Nigerian midfielder, making his 25th appearance of the campaign, was aiming to reach a personal milestone of 50 club career goal contributions.
However, he would have to wait a little longer, as he was unable to register a goal or an assist in a difficult outing at the King Power Stadium.
Wolves opened the scoring in the 33rd minute through Matheus Cunha, who converted Rayan Ait-Nouri’s cross from close range to notch his 15th Premier League goal of the season.
Cunha then turned provider shortly after the restart, setting up Jorgen Strand Larsen to double the visitors’ advantage with a composed finish.
Leicester had a rare opportunity to pull one back when veteran striker Jamie Vardy stepped up to take a penalty in the 72nd minute.
However, Wolves goalkeeper José Sá guessed correctly and made the save to preserve his clean sheet.
The Foxes’ misery was compounded five minutes from time when Rodrigo Gomes finished clinically after another assist from Cunha, sealing a comprehensive victory for the visitors.
Already relegated with five games remaining, Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Leicester City side were playing only for pride but extended their miserable winless streak, which dates back to January 26.
Ndidi, who started the match, lasted 83 minutes before being substituted.
During his time on the pitch, the Nigerian registered 32 touches, completed 39 of his 46 attempted passes (an 85% success rate), and created one key pass.
He also managed one shot on target, had another attempt blocked, and was unfortunate to see an effort come back off the woodwork during Leicester’s limited attacking spells.
The 28-year-old continues to be a bright spot in an otherwise dismal season for Leicester.
