Super Eagles midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi and Leicester City have been relegated from the Premier League following a narrow 1-0 loss to Liverpool at the King Power Stadium on Sunday.
Despite needing a win to delay the inevitable, the Foxes couldn’t withstand Liverpool’s pressure, and Trent Alexander-Arnold’s 76th-minute strike sealed their fate.
The result left Leicester stranded on 18 points after 33 games, mathematically confirming their drop to the Championship with five matches left to play.
Ndidi started the game and delivered a committed performance in midfield. He had an early chance to give Leicester the lead in the 10th minute, but his effort from close range struck the upright.
The Nigerian was solid defensively, recording four tackles, three blocks, one goal-line clearance, and three attempts at goal before being substituted in the 83rd minute.
Liverpool dominated most of the first half, with the likes of Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, and Ibrahima Konaté all testing Leicester’s resilience.
But the Foxes held on until the breakthrough finally came through Alexander-Arnold’s emphatic finish following a scrappy sequence in the box.
The defeat marked Leicester’s ninth consecutive home loss without scoring a dismal record in English football and confirmed their fall from the top flight just one season after winning the Championship.
Ndidi now becomes the third Super Eagles player to be relegated from the Premier League this season, following Paul Onuachu and Joe Aribo with Southampton.
The 28-year-old midfielder has made 24 league appearances this season, contributing four assists.
Although he played a vital role in helping Leicester gain promotion last season, his efforts were not enough to save them this time.
Ndidi’s future at the club remains uncertain, but for now, it’s back to the Championship for Leicester City.
