Two goals from Effiong Ndifreke and another strike from Charles Atshimene helped Akwa United see off Katsina United on Sunday.
Akwa United went into the match at the back of their 0-1 win over Adamawa United in the mid week.
Coach Kenedy Boboye has made 3 changes to the starting 11 that beat Adamawa Utd as David Philip and Atshimene came in for their first start of the season while Amadi Samuel also returned to the starting 11.
Akwa United created the first chance of the match inside opening three minutes, Morice Chukwu fed Mfon Udoh with a long pass and the striker got his shot on target but goalkeeper Yusuf Mohammad punched it out for a corner kick.
After missing few chances, Akwa United finally took the lead in the 29th minute. David Philip sent a dangerous cross inside the box for Ndifreke who controlled it calmly before beating goalkeeper Yusuf Mohammad from close range.
The home based Super Eagles striker turned provider for the second goal in the 61st minute, he did well to beat his maker before setting up Atshimene for the goal.
Ndifreke scored his second of the game in 79th minutes, referee penalty penalized Katsina United defender for fouling him in the box and the striker stepped up to convert the penalty.
The Attacker has now scored six goals for the Promise Keepers this season and the victory moves Akwa United from the ninth position to fifth on the log with 15 points from nine games.
Kennedy Boboye’s side will next battle Nasarawa United in Lafia match-day 10 next weekend.
