Former Technical Director of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria Rtd Navy Commodore Omatseye Nesiama has hailed the Sports Minister Sunday Dare’s pursuit of the adopt an athlete initiative after the adoption of 2018 Commonwealth Games Gold Medalist and Tokyo Olympics medal hopeful Oluwatobi Amusan.
Nesiama speaking in a chat with brila.net said the initiative is one that he has personally instituted as a roadmap for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio which wasn’t followed but now believes it is one that can go a long way to change the landscape for Nigerian athletes if any of them gets adopted accordingly.
“It can still change a few things, the adopt an athlete thing is part of my strategic direction towards Rio which was not really followed and I’m happy the minister is pursuing that agenda very well. Such thing coming at this time will help the athletes to concentrate better without necessarily thinking of how to survive but how to perform.”
