NFF mandates technical committee to submit roadmap for Russia 2018 in 3 days

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), yesterday gave its technical committee 3 days to submit its technical roadmap for the Super Eagles preparation at the 2018 FIA World Cup in Russia.

The NFF had earlier given the committee the task during its last meeting in Jos but the committee now has a grace of 3 days to submit the programme to federation’s secretary general’s office.

NFF Media and Publicity committee chairman, Suleiman Kwande, who spoke to the media at the end of board meeting yesterday in Abuja also noted that the board has not approved any other international friendly match with the Super Eagles, except the November 15 game against Argentina in Russia.

“The technical committee has been given three days to produce a roadmap to the NFF executive board for the Super Eagles participation in the World cup. The president has given them three days to submit the programme because it was agreed at the last board meeting that they produce a roadmap for the team.

“Their report will, however, be recommendations, which would not be sacrosanct; the board will deliberate on it and consider it as well as make an input before ratifying it”.

It was tough securing Argentina friendly, says Eagles official

Nigeria officials have admitted it was difficult to convince Argentina to play against the Super Eagles because they are ranked by FIFA well outside the top 30 teams in the world.

A complete Argentina team, with superstar Lionel Messi, will take on Nigeria on November 14 in a friendly match as part of preparation by both countries for next year’s World Cup in Russia.

Nigeria is currently ranked 41st in the world by FIFA, while Argentina is fourth in the world.

“Being outside the top 30 teams in the world, it was not easy to get Argentina to agree to play us,” Eagles spokesman Toyin Ibitoye revealed.

“But thanks to the leadership of the NFF and our match agent, Jairo Pachon, we were able to swing it.

“The high-profile friendly against Argentina is a big one as it will help knock our team into shape for World Cup especially as we do not have another window for such a match until March next year when we will play AFCON qualifiers.”
