Ghana climbed a place ahead of Nigeria who slipped a spot to ninth on the continent in the latest FIFA World ranking.
The ranking are for the month of December and also mark the last for 2017.
Nigeria also dropped from 50th to 51st in the world.
Last year the Nigeria finished just ahead of Ghana in 8th spot but still in the 51st spot globally.
In the latest issue Senegal, Tunisia, Egypt, DR Congo and Morocco make up the top five teams in Africa.
Meanwhile, Germany are the FIFA World Ranking’s latest ‘Team of the Year’, having ended 2017 atop the global ladder.
Brazil, Portugal, Argentina -Nigeria’s world cup opponent – and Belgium complete the teams in the top five globally.
The other two world cup Opponents Croatia and Iceland end the year in 17th and 22nd spots.
