Nigeria’s Flying Eagles were held to a goalless draw by Morocco in a tightly contested U-20 Africa Cup of Nations Group B encounter on Sunday.

Following their opening-day win over Tunisia, Aliyu Zubairu’s side aimed to secure back-to-back victories to take control of the group.

However, they met a disciplined Moroccan side that maintained shape, posed threats on the counter, and edged stretches of possession.

Nigeria started the match on the front foot, showing energy and attacking intent.

Clinton Jephtah and Precious Benjamin were particularly active in the final third, but the Moroccan defence remained solid and compact.

Their best opportunity came in the 39th minute when Israel Ayuma made a surging run into the box and delivered a dangerous low cross.

However, Morocco’s defence quickly cleared the ball before it could find a Nigerian boot.

As the game progressed, Morocco settled into their rhythm and finished the half strongly.

Nigeria’s goalkeeper, Ebenezer Harcourt was called into action, making two key interventions to keep the scores level before the break.

The second half was more cagey, with both teams limiting risks.

Nigeria registered three shots on target by the 73rd minute but struggled to convert possession into real danger.

The result leaves both teams tied at the top of Group B with four points apiece after two matches.

With the knockout rounds looming, Nigeria will need to sharpen their attacking edge and take greater control in midfield when they face Kenya in their final group game.

The Flying Eagles remain well-positioned to qualify but will be aware that nothing less than a composed, clinical performance will guarantee progression.
