Nigeria Rugby prepared to pick Olympic ticket- Stallions Captain, Ladipo

Nigeria Rugby National team, Black Stallions captain, Azeez Ladipo has revealed that the team have focused on their strength levels and conditioning ahead of tough test against defending African champions Zimbabwe at the Africa Men’s Sevens tournament which also serves as Olympic qualifiers in South Africa.

Ladipo who departed for South Africa with the 7s team today told brila.net that the experience in the team leaves him feeling optimistic and ” Most of the players have been in this position before, although we have some new players on the team who participated at the regionals 7 in Cote’d Ivoire last year so I believe we will do well.”

“We also have gone through high intensity strength and conditioning training, though is not been the best of preparation but we have to improvise with what we have, for the first time we have 2 strength and conditioning coaches and have played a couple of test games.”

Ladipo urged the ministry to collaborate and assist the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF) to improve the game because it has the potential to grow by training more coaches and players.

14 African teams will compete at the Africa Men’s Sevens tournament on 8th and 9th November, 2019 for the gold medal to qualify directly for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, while the silver medallist will compete in a global repechage tournament that will take place in June 2020 for a spot at the Olympic Games.
