Nigeria Swoop For Tammy Abraham

Nigeria Swoop For Tammy Abraham

Tammy Abraham could yet trade England international duty for Nigeria if the Super Eagles federation president has his way.

Amaju Pinnick, the president of Nigeria’s federation, believes Chelsea striker Abraham could choose the country of his father’s birth when he commits his future to a senior international team.

Abraham, 19, is spending the season on loan with Swansea and has played for England, where he was born, at the U18, U19 and U21 levels.

“We are working on getting Abraham,” Pinnick told reporters. “Tammy is like my son. His father and I grew up in the same neighbourhood.

“So when they talk about him, I just laugh because I know what to do.”

The Chelsea forward joined Swansea City on loan for the season and signed a five-year contract at the Premier League champions.

The Blues announced both the new deal and the loan agreement for the 19-year-old, where he will join Swans boss and former Chelsea assistant Paul Clement.

Abraham spent last season on loan with Bristol City in the Championship and excelled, scoring 26 goals in 48 appearances for the club.

He became the highest-scoring teenager in Championship history in the process, while scooping up Bristol City’s Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year awards.

Abraham has two Chelsea appearances to his name, both coming in the 2015-16 season.

The striker is Swansea’s second signing of the summer after goalkeeper Erwin Mulder during their tour of the United States.
