Former Nigeria international Daniel Amokachi hinted that Nigeria will never see another player like his former teammate Austin Okocha again.
Amokachi who shared dressing room with the former Bolton Wanderers Captain at the National Team stressed that player like Okocha only comes once a life time.
Since the exit of the mercurial midfielder from the Super Eagles, Nigerians haven’t seen a dribbler in the color of the National team, until CSKA Moscow forward Chidera Ejuke delivered a masterclass performance against Central African Republic.
Ejuke’s quick feet, sublime skills and artistic dribbles quickly earned him a comparison with the legendary midfielder, and many suggested he could be the next Jay Jay.
Reacting to the statement, Amokachi, pointed that, Nigeria can only produce a player with similar qualities, but he can never be another Okocha.
“We normally have players who play similar like Jay Jay but not Jay Jay, there will never be another Jay Jay because his kind comes once in a life time,” Amokachi said on his radio show ‘The Bull’s Pit’ on Brila FM.
“God doesn’t bring the same people into this world so the legacy of Jay Jay remains his legacy. So you cannot get another Jay Jay, it’s either you get another player who is far better than Jay Jay but you cannot get a player like Jay Jay. He was so good they named him twice.”
Amokachi and Okocha represented Nigeria at the various international tournaments, before their retirement.
The duo are part of the Super Eagles squad to FIFA World Cup in 1994 and 1998. They won the 1994 African Cup of Nations and the Olympics goal medal in Atlanta 96.
