Nigeria’s leading scorer in Europe: Onuachu not a one season wonder

Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu was on target for KRC Genk in the Belgian Jupiler League game against Seraing.

The Nigerian scored a hat-trick to power his side to 3-0 over Seraing at the Liminus Arena on Sunday.

Onuachu started the game on a negative note as he missed a penalty in the 10th minute, but the Nigerian put the disappointment behind him and opened the scoring 20 minutes later.

The 27-year-old added the second in the 41st minute, before completing his hat-trick from the penalty spot in the second half of the encounter.

Onuachu was voted as the man of the match after the thrilling encounter, and it was a well deserved the accolades.

After the record-breaking 2020-2021 campaign when his scored 35 goals for Genk, many people believe he is a one season wonder and might not be able to repeat the performance.

With just a few weeks into the new season, Onuachu has scored 11 goals for Genk in all competitions this season, and he’s the highest scoring Nigerian striker home and abroad at the moment.

The closest to him on the chart is Victor Osimhen who has scored six goals for Napoli in all competitions this season.

Onuachu has also scored in all consecutive league matches for Genk, which is remarkable because Genk are yet to hit top form this season.

The way he’s performing at the moment is a proof that last season’s success was not a fluke, and he might go all the way to break the record he set last season.
