Nikyu Hails NPFL Champions Rivers United after handing them beating with mid-table Nasarawa

Nasarawa United head Coach Bala Nikyu has described Rivers United as deserving winners of this season’s Nigeria Professional Football League title.

Rivers United lost 2-1 to Nasarawa United on Sunday, but the result was inconsequential following Plateau United’s defeat to Akwa United.

Sunday Okereke put the Solid Miners in front in the first half, but Sikiru Olatunbosun leveled the game with ten minutes to play.

The game was won towards the added time as Michael Tochukwu converted a penalty after Rivers United defender handled the ball in the box.

“It’s a great result for us. At this point of the league, every team gives all it has to win because if you lose, the impact will be huge,” Nikyu said. “So, we appreciate God for the outcome today.”

Speaking on the new league champions, Nikyu added, “Rivers United deserved to win the league because they have been great this season.”

Following the result, the Solid Miners moved to 10th position with 47 points.
