Kano Pillars recorded a narrow win over visiting Sunshine Stars FC in an NPFL mid-week fixture played at the Ahmadu Bello stadium on Wednesday.
While Pillars came into the game on the back of a 1-0 defeat to Lobi Stars in Makurdi, Sunshine were aiming to end their three games winless run.
Gbenga Ogunbote’s side fell behind with just minutes into the match, after Nyima Nwagua forced a Sunshine Stars own goal, from a corner kick.
The visitors almost drew level in the 13th minute, when Emmanuel James’s cross was bungled by top scorer Sadeeq Yusuf.
Another chance came begging for the visitors in the 21st minute, but Waheed Adebayo fired straight at Pillars goalkeeper.
The visitors created another good chance in the 37th minute, but Yusuf blazed over while Adebayo was waiting for him to pass the ball.
Sunshine Stars handler, Gbenga Ogunbote made some changes in the second half in order to rescue a point but the home side defended their slim advantage until the final whistle.
Sunshine Stars have now picked just two point from possible twelve in the last four matches
