NPFL : Lobi Stars edge Plateau United in Makurdi

Lobi Stars of Makurdi secured hard fought 3-2 win over Plateau United in a thrilling NPFL contest at the Aper Aku Stadium on Sunday.

The hosts went into the match on the back of a 1 – 0 defeat to Nasarawa United in Lafia, while Plateau United recorded a flawless 3-1 over MFM FC in Jos last week.

It was a cagey affair in the first 45 minutes as both side struggled to create anything meaningful in the attacking third.

The second half saw some positive approaches from both coaches, and it was Lobi Stars who drew the first blood through Douglas Achiv (47′).

Lobi Stars doubled their advantage ten minutes later from the penalty spot through Austin Ogunye.

Ogunye grabbed his second of the game in the 66th minute to put the home side in the driving seat.

Despite trailing by three goals, the visitors kept attacking and finally got their reward in the 82nd minute when Muhammad Zulkifilu beat Lobi star goalkeeper from close range.

Zulkifilu got his second of the game from the penalty spot to make it 3-2 in the added time.

Lobi however survived the late comeback by defending with numbers until the final whistle.
