Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali has withdrawn from Monday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Rwanda over family issues.

Nwabali was between the sticks when Nigeria played against Benin Republic on Thursday.

The 28 year-old, who has been first choice since 2023, was excused by interim Super Eagles coach, Austin Eguavoen.

In a statement, Friday, the NFF confirmed Nwabali will miss the final AFCON qualifying match.

“He has been excused from the game. However, the player will come to watch the match and cheer his team mates on,” Team Administrator, Dayo Enebi Achor, told thenff.com.

The player announced via his social media handle on Friday that his father, Godspower Onyekam Abali, Chief Onyeogazrim 1 of Okwuzi, had passed on. The former chief surveyor was 67.

Meanwhile, Nigeria has already booked a place in next year’s tournament, and will finish top of Group D following the 1-1 result against Benin Republic.

In the absence of Nwabali, the Super Eagles coach will select from his either of his deputies, Maduka Okoye or Amas Obasogie.
