Nwankwo shines despite Salernitana’s defeat to Juventus

Nigerian striker Simy Nwankwo featured in Salernitana’s 2-0 defeat to Juventus at the Stadio Arechi on Tuesday.

The gangling forward was handed a rare start by coach Stefano Colantuono who is desperate to rescue the club from relegation.

Nwankwo had a decent outing against the Old Lady, and was unlucky not to add to the one league goal he scored this season.

The striker almost put Salernitana ahead early in the first half, but his glance header went just wide.

Juventus later settled into the match and took the lead in the 21st minute of the game. Dejan Kulusevski linked up well with Dybala who finished excellently.

Simy Nwankwo was substituted in the 61st minute and it was Milan Đurić who took his place on the pitch.

Morata added Juventus’ second midway through the second half after Paulo Dybala had opened the score with just over 20 minutes played in Salerno.

Federico Bonazzoli did come within inches of leveling. The Salernitana forward smacked an effort off the inside of the post.

Juventus held on for an important win, while Salernitana suffered another home defeat, in what is looking to be a very difficult campaign in the top flight.

They have now lost four consecutive home games and rooted bottom of the league with just 8 points from 15 matches.
