NFF President Amaju Pinnick has revealed Odion Ighalo remains committed to the Super Eagles, despite missing the last African national team engagement.
Ighalo’s commitment was questioned after missing the 2021 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon — where the Super Eagles failed to go beyond the round of 16.
In a statement released via his social media handle on Thursday, Pinnick confirmed he met the 32-year-old striker ahead of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Ghana and has he assured Nigerians of his availability.
“I would like to stress that qualifying for the Qatar World Cup is non-negotiable and we are doing everything possible to ensure this happens. ”
“I just met with Odion ighalo, the highest goalscorer at the 2019 edition of the AFCON, now playing and still scoring goals for Saudi Arabia’s biggest football club. Odion has assured that playing for his country will always come first and he is ready to ensure.” Pinnick revealed.
Ighalo retired from National Team football immediately after the 2019 African Cup of Nations but rescinded his decision last year.
