Official: Sports Radio Brila FM launches in Portharcourt, begins test transmission

Nigeria’s first Sports radio station, 88.9 Brila FM has launched another sports broadcast station in Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital.

The concept, which is the latest expansion move by the Dr. Larry Izamoje-led media empire, was launched to further improve on spread of the radio station and also bring Sports closer to the people in the region.


Chief Operations officer of the organization, Debbie Larry-Izamoje, said it is one of the company’s strategies to improve content distribution, retain listenership and spread sports broadcasting beyond the current states.


In her words of appreciation, Debbie thanked the Chairman and the Executive Director for their endless support and hardwork.


She also attributed the success of the new station launch to the Chairman, Dr. Larry, who has continued to guide and lead with his wealth of experience from behind the scene.


“To begin, we have to thank God for this because it’s been an amazing journey and when you are in leadership and management of sports broadcasting in Nigeria you begin to realize that Brila is just a product of Grace,”

“In post Covid19 when businesses are closing, when people are complaining. Here we are, expanding and we have also talked about our restructuring process, all in the past year,”


She also took time to appreciate all the friends of the organization at the Nigerian broadcasting corporation who ensured the seamless process of approving the new station.


Brila Fm portharcourt has commenced test transmission today, and will continue for four weeks before shifting into commercial transmission.


Sports Radio 88.9 Brila FM also known as Brila FM is a sports radio station was founded on October 1, 2002 by Dr. Larry Izamoje as Nigeria’s first and only sports radio station.


Licensed by the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission, Brila FM has other sister stations located in Abuja, Onitsha and now portharcourt.
