Ojo pleased as Sunshine Stars escape relegation

Sunshine Stars Midfielder, Dayo Ojo has expressed joy after his side narrowly escaped relegation at the end of the 2019 Nigerian league season.

Speaking with brila.net, Dayo hailed his teammates for the great gameplay which earned them all 3 points in a 4-2 win over MFM FC at the Akure Township Stadium.
“I give thanks to Almighty God. It wasn’t easy at all. We got the 3 points. We played against a good side that came to Akure to get a point to play in the super 6 and scoring against MFM at a crucial game needed to escape relegation made us very happy.
“I thank God Almighty, our fans and my teammates. The victory was awesome, you needed to be at the stadium to see for yourself. You could see the passion as Sunshine stars is a big brand in Nigerian football and we strive to keep the good name.”
Dayo Ojo, who scored a hattrick in the game also went on to commend the spirited effort put up by players of MFM FC saying that the Lagos based outfit came out strong as well.
“We played against a good side that came with full force but we were able to subdue them by getting the 3 points. We are all very proud of and delighted with the outcome of the game.”
Sunshine Stars scored three first-half goals with Dayo Ojo opening the goals account in the 18th minute. Dayo then doubled his side’s lead from the penalty spot in the 25th  minute before MFM’s Alade Balogun pulled one back. Anthony Omaka extended the lead for the Owena boys in the 45th minute.
The second half saw MFM come out strong and it paid off in the 57th minute when Chijioke Akuneto scored to bring the scores to 3-2 and the pressure mounted from both ends.
The tension was doused and fans of Sunshine Stars were ecstatic when Dayo scored from the penalty spot in the 90th minute.
