Okoye stars on his competitive debut for Sparta Rotterdam

Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye made his first competitive for Sparta Rotterdam against ADO Den Haag on Wednesday.

 

Okoye who signed for the club back in August was handed the opportunity to be between the sticks in the first round of the KNVB Cup and the 19-year-old didn’t disappoint.

 

Okoye made five vital saves to keep Sparta Rotterdam ahead for most of the game after Danzell Gravenberch gave them the lead in the 39th minute.

 

However, the former Fortuna Düsseldorf shoot stopper was beaten by Luuk Koopman in the added time as the game ended in 1-1 and force it into a penalty shootout.

 

 

ADO Den Haag went on to secure 5-3 win in the penalty shoot out, but the performance could be a turn around for Okoye who is yet to make a league appearance.

 

 

Sparta Rotterdam remains winless in the Dutch Eredivisie as well, they lost four and drawn three of their seven matches.
