Okoye’s Rotterdam League debut ends in heavy defeat

Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye made his first start for Rotterdam in their Dutch Eredivisie game against SC Heerenveen on Sunday.

Okoye retained his place in the team after impressive performance in a cup game against Ado Den Haag in the mid-week.

 

Okoye who was in goal for the entire duration of the game was beaten on four different occasions, while his club could only score once.

 

The 19-year-old conceded the first goal in the 7th minutes after Benjamin Nygren beat him with a low drive from near post.

Heerenveen were out of sight within the next 35 minutes as terrible defending allowed Jan Paul van Hecke and Henk Veerman extended the scoreline to 3 – 0.

Rotterdam’s defense were caught off-guard again in the 57th and Henk Veerman this completed his brace.

 

Rotterdam however got a consolation goal after Lennart Thy converted a penalty in the added time.

 

Despite the heavy defeat, Okoye still manage to make a total number of three saves and completed 70% of the passes he attempted.
