Okunowo attributes Barcelona’s current struggles on leadership problem

Former Super Eagles of Nigeria and Barcelona right-back, Gbenga Okunowo has added his voice to the problems facing Catalan giant FC Barcelona after the club’s latest humiliating 1-4 defeat at the camp Nou in the first leg of the round of 16 tie against Ligue Un heavyweights PSG.

Okunowo who spoke from his base in Barcelona in a chat with www.brila.net said though Covid 19 has affected almost every aspect of the game and especially the absence of fans at the Camp Nou, he noted that the absence of leadership at both the administrative level and on the pitch remains a big source of concern for the club.

“Now, there is no president, no directors, all these things are not good at the moment, just some people put in place to take temporary charge in the last four months. Who to report to, who to carry the blame, The coach now is facing a lot of real pressure. Nobody is going to talk to him and nobody to report to”.

Okunowo, who played for the Blaugrana alongside current Manchester city coach Pep Guardiola was very vocal on the pitch and in the dressing room, citing that such leadership and that of Carles Puyol is lacking in the team. He said though Messi is a great player, he is not the kind of player to charge his teammates in difficult situations. He further called on the players to draw inspiration from among themselves to help revive the depleted fortunes of the club.
