Former Barcelona defender, Samuel Okunowo has urged Super Eagles right-back Bright Osayi-Samuel to consider leaving Fenerbahçe at the end of the season, suggesting that the RB has outgrown the Turkish Super Lig.

Osayi-Samuel, whose contract with Fenerbahçe is set to expire in the coming months, has been linked with a move away from the Istanbul giants.

With just under three months remaining on his current deal, the 26-year-old is expected to make a final decision about his future at the end of the season.

While Fenerbahçe may look to renew his contract, Okunowo believes it is time for Osayi-Samuel to seek new opportunities elsewhere.

“In my opinion, he has surpassed the level of the Turkish league,” Okunowo told Africa Foot. “I think there are many opportunities he could explore, and in my opinion, this is where he should focus his efforts.

“With all due respect to Fenerbahçe, which is currently led by a world-class coach like José Mourinho, I believe he has already given a lot to the club and it is time for him to move on.

“Moving to Galatasaray, a rival club in the same league, could even tarnish his legacy.”

The former Barcelona right-back also pointed to Osayi-Samuel’s versatility and dynamism as qualities that would make him a good fit for clubs in England, Spain, or Italy.

“I’m convinced that several Premier League clubs, but also those in Spain and Italy, could benefit from his qualities.

“He’s a solid defender, capable of contributing offensively. And that works in his favour: his contract is out. But, ultimately, the decision is his,” Okunowo added.

Osayi-Samuel has made 172 appearances for Fenerbahçe since joining in 2021, scoring seven goals and providing 15 assists.

With the summer transfer window approaching, a move away from the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium looks increasingly likely.
